Kolkata, May 7 (IANS). Political rhetoric has intensified in West Bengal regarding the election results and the alleged political violence that followed. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy has strongly condemned the violence and demanded strict action against the culprits.
TMC MP Saugata Roy expressed deep concern over the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in West Bengal. He told IANS that there is no place for violence and political killings in a democracy. The culprits should be held accountable as soon as possible and allegations and counter-allegations should be avoided in this matter. He condemned the incident and demanded a fair investigation.
MP Saugata Roy took a tougher stand in this matter and said that Chandranath Rath’s murder should be investigated by the CBI under the supervision of the court so that the truth can come out. He said that such incidents are extremely sad in a democracy and those responsible should be arrested without delay. TMC has no connection with this incident and it is being described as part of post-poll violence.
He said that in the last few days, many incidents of political violence have come to light in the state, in which some TMC workers have also been killed. He condemned all these incidents and demanded a fair investigation and said that it is wrong to link any political party with violence until the investigation is completed.
On the question asked about ‘Operation Sindoor’, Saugata Roy said that he does not have complete information about this operation because despite being a member of Parliament, detailed information about defense matters is not shared. He said the government calls it an 88-hour operation, but its actual results are still unclear. Expressing condolences on any loss, he said that its complete information should be made public.
Responding to the election results, Saugata Roy said that he does not want to divide the results on the basis of caste or tribe. Generally speaking, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got more seats than TMC.
He also said that it is practically difficult to explain the results separately on the basis of SC, ST and general categories as it is the result of a broad political mandate.
