Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted India’s progress in the technology sector, underlined its achievements in developing indigenous technology, and stressed the impact of initiatives like ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’.

Addressing the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Prime Minister Modi said that India is progressing in every dimension. He appreciated the country’s emergence as an effective platform for innovation and progress.

The Prime Minister highlighted how Indian industry, startups and academia are collaborating for the development of the country.

Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, with the support of the government, Indian industry, startups and academia are working together in many areas. Be it development and expansion of indigenous technology or creation of intellectual property through R&D, India is moving ahead in every field. India is emerging as an effective platform for innovation and progress.”

The Prime Minister said, “I say with full confidence that this is the best time for investment, innovation and Make in India. From manufacturing to semiconductors, from mobile technology to startups, India holds immense potential in every sector.”

Prime Minister Modi reflected on how people used to mock the idea of Make in India, saying the country has responded to him by saying that almost every district has 5G connectivity.

He said, “India’s success reflects the strength of the self-reliant India vision. When I initially talked about Make in India, people used to make fun of it. They used to say how will India make technologically advanced things. The country answered them. The country which was struggling with 2G, today has 5G in every district.”

Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the recent launch of the 4G stack and said that India has become one of the five countries to have this capability. He further said that this progress reflects India’s self-reliance and technological independence.

PM Modi said, “A few days ago, India launched its Made in India 4G stack. India now joins the list of five countries in the world that have this capability. This is a big step towards digital self-reliance and technological independence. Through the indigenous 4G and 5G stack, we will be able to ensure seamless connectivity for all.”

Speaking about the Telecom Act, Prime Minister Modi said, “Over the last decade, India’s technological revolution has grown rapidly. To keep up with this pace, there was a need for a strong legal and modern policy foundation. For this, we introduced the Telecom Act, which replaced old laws that were no longer meeting today’s needs. It was necessary to create a system that meets the needs of the 21st century. This new Act provides regulatory no, Rather, it is a facilitator. “It has sped up the whole process.”

Referring to the low cost of internet data in India, Prime Minister Modi said that digital connectivity is not a luxury but an integral part of people’s lives.

He said, “Today in India, one GB of wireless data costs less than a cup of tea. I am used to giving the example of tea. But in terms of user data consumption, we are one of the leading countries in the world. This means that digital connectivity in India is no longer a privilege or a luxury; it is an integral part of Indian life. India is also a leader in promoting industry and investment.”

He said, “India’s democratic set-up, welcoming approach of government and ease of doing business policies have positioned India as an investor-friendly destination. Our success in digital public infrastructure is a testament to how committed the government is to a digital-first mindset.”

The Prime Minister said, “India’s digital connectivity is not a privilege or a luxury, but an integral part of every Indian’s life. In terms of mindset to promote industry and investment, India is at the forefront. India’s democratic system, welcoming approach of the government and ease of doing business policy have together earned the country recognition as an investment-friendly destination.”

Prime Minister Modi today inaugurated the 9th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025. IMC 2025, to be held from October 8 to 11 under the theme “Innovate to Transform”, will highlight India’s commitment to leverage innovation for digital transformation and social progress.
