New Delhi, May 19 (IANS). Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday inaugurated the National Seminar on New Age Fibers-Innovation, Research and the Road Ahead. He said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the Textile Ministry has taken the lead to promote New Age fibre.
The Union Minister observed the innovations and technical solutions based on ‘New Age Fiber’ by various institutions, startups and industries in the exhibition organized under the seminar.
He said that by adopting new technology and maintaining a balance between progress and nature, India’s textile industry is rapidly moving towards real development. The symposium is bringing together key stakeholders to discuss sustainable solutions to strengthen India’s textile ecosystem and the future.
While talking to the media, Giriraj Singh said that the whole world is struggling with global warming. As soon as he assumed office in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid emphasis on solar energy and said that India would become its leader. Today we are moving in the same direction. He said that now the Textile Ministry is working to promote New Age fibre. The whole world is demanding sustainable fiber and the Textile Ministry under the leadership of Narendra Modi has taken the lead in this direction.
The minister said that we have selected 10 fibers, which include milkweed, ramie, flax, sisal, natural bamboo fiber, mechanical pineapple, banana fiber etc. Apart from this, recycled cotton and recycled PET bottles have also been included.
Giriraj Singh said that under the leadership of Modi government, the Textile Department has launched a concept note. In this, work is being done by taking together industry, researchers and startups. The target is to increase the production of new age fiber to one lakh metric tons in the next five years.
He said that it will be surprising for the whole world that if anyone can provide New Age Fiber then it can be provided by India. All the work of the textile department is being done considering the farmers as the basis. Doubling the income of farmers is the theme of PM Modi. We are working on the policy of Waste to Wealth. We are converting banana waste, pineapple waste etc into fibre.
Milkweed is emerging as a revolutionary and highly effective fiber in the textile industry today. Apart from being eco-friendly and completely sustainable, this fiber is also lightweight, comfortable and extremely strong, making it an excellent and versatile option for modern and future sustainable clothing.
To strengthen the entire textile sector, the Textile Ministry is continuously working on ‘New Age Fiber’. Special work is being done on sustainable fibers like milkweed, bamboo, linen (flax), ramie, and banana. With the help of new machines, every effort is being made to increase the income of farmers and make the country self-reliant. Giriraj Singh said that these new fibers will not only increase the income of farmers but will also lead to environmental protection with low carbon footprint.
