Chamoli, 22 September (IANS). There was a huge uproar over the students’ union election at Gopeshwar College in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, after which the administration postponed the elections till advance orders. NSUI has made serious allegations of making disturbances in the election.
In fact, the sale of nomination forms for the student union election was to begin on Monday, but the result of Kishan, the candidate for the post of President of Congress student organization NSUI, gave rise to manipulation controversy. The NSUI made serious allegations against the college administration and the university of working under political pressure.
Kishan said that he was passed in the results released by the university and he had also taken admission in MA first year. But just a day before the nomination, his results were changed overnight and declared him fail, due to which he was disqualified for the election. Angry with this decision, NSUI activists performed strongly outside the Principal office. During this time there was a sharp disaster between the police and the students. To control the situation, Additional District Magistrate and CO Chamoli had to mediate, after which the elections were postponed in view of the uproar.
NSUI District President Vipin Farswan accused the college administration of bias. He said that NSUI candidates were not given forms, while they were standing in line since time. In contrast, ABVP candidates were given forms, which is completely unjust. He alleged that the college administration is not conducting transparent elections under pressure from the government. NSUI candidate Tanisha also said that this act questions the democratic process and is a violation of students’ rights.
Principal Prof. MP Nagwal regretted the uproar and said that the decision was taken on the basis of the result of the university. He assured that the matter would be investigated and transparency will be taken.
