Srinagar, February 25 (IANS). Vice President CP Radhakrishnan reached Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday on a two-day visit.
A special Boeing aircraft carrying Vice President CP Radhakrishnan landed at Srinagar airport on Wednesday evening.
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atal Dullu, General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps of the Army headquartered at Srinagar and Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir welcomed Vice President CP Radhakrishnan at the airport.
After this, he reached Raj Bhawan Srinagar located in Chashma Shahi area of Srinagar in a convoy amidst tight security.
This is Vice President Radhakrishnan’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after assuming office.
He will attend the 21st convocation ceremony organized at Hazratbal campus of University of Kashmir as the chief guest on Thursday. The Lieutenant Governor is the Chancellor of the University, while the Chief Minister is the Pro-Chancellor.
Security was tightened ahead of the arrival of the Vice President. The security forces conducted route sanitization and dry runs on their assigned routes.
Temporary check posts have been set up at many places in the city. Checking of vehicles entering the city and frisking of people has been increased to ensure security during the VVIP visit.
The traffic department has issued a detailed advisory and appealed to the passengers to adopt alternative routes so that the movement of the Vice President’s convoy remains smooth.
According to the advisory, vehicles will not be allowed to move from Badyari Chowk and Gupkar Marg towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan and surrounding areas on Thursday.
Traffic going from Ram Munshibagh towards Hotel Grand Palace will also remain closed. Vehicles will be diverted towards Dalgate, Sangarmal and Ikhwan Chowk.
Traffic will be restricted on Dalgate, Khayyam, Khanyar, Rainawari, Saidakadal and Hazratbal roads during the scheduled time.
Vehicles going to Lal Chowk from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Ganderbal and surrounding areas will be able to go via Burjahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Jakura, Malbagh, Ilahibagh and 90 feet road.
Similarly, people going to Harwan, Shalimar and Nishat from Dalgate, Lal Chowk and surrounding areas have been asked to use Sangarmal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 feet road and Malbagh route.
Vehicles going to Srinagar Airport from Harwan, Shalimar and Nishat will be able to go through Burjahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Jakura, Malbagh, Ilahibagh and 90 feet road.
Vehicles going from Pantha Chowk and Pandrethan towards Ram Munshibagh will be able to pass through Peaks Motors Naugam and bypass route.
Officials said that in cases of medical emergency, permission will be given after verification. Citizens can contact the traffic police for any assistance.
