Kolkata, May 6 (IANS). The series of violent incidents continues even after the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal. Large scale violence took place in Sandeshkhali late on Tuesday night. During this firing, 5 police and central forces personnel were also injured. Everyone has been admitted to the hospital.
According to initial reports, the team that reached the spot after receiving a complaint of intimidation of villagers was attacked at Sandeshkhali under Nyazat police station area. Three policemen and two central force personnel were injured in the attack. All the injured soldiers have been admitted to hospitals in Kolkata.
Officials said that police raided the spot and recovered socket bombs and detained several suspects. At present, further investigation is going on in the matter.
A local woman said, “The police came. We didn’t know anything. We were inside the house with our family. The police entered our house and took away my husband. My husband is innocent. I don’t know why they are taking him…”
Another woman said, “A group of people were roaming around. They were damaging some places and creating chaos. When they saw the police, everyone started running in different directions and suddenly firing started. We did not understand what was happening.”
It is known that Sandeshkhali area of West Bengal came into limelight after allegations of sexual harassment of women, forcible occupation of lands and torture in Mamata Banerjee’s government. TMC leaders were accused of serious allegations in these incidents. However, this time Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Sandeshkhali assembly seat. BJP candidate Sanat Sardar defeated TMC’s Jharna Sardar by a margin of 17,510 votes.
