Kolkata, February 28 (IANS). The final voter list was released on Saturday as part of the ongoing special intensive vetting in West Bengal.
According to the data, names of around 47,000 voters have been deleted in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Bhabanipur assembly constituency in West Bengal, while the number is around 11,000 in Nandigram, the assembly constituency of Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer West Bengal, the total number of names deleted from the final voter list in South Kolkata’s Bhawanipur assembly constituency is 47,111. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the MLA from here.
Similarly, the number of names deleted in the final voter list in Nandigram assembly constituency of East Midnapore district is 10,994. The leader of opposition is the MLA from here.
Documents of 14,154 voters in Bhawanipur are currently under adjudication, which means more names may be removed from the area once the judicial process is completed.
The number of voters in Nandigram with documents pending adjudication is 8,819.
At the time of this report, there was no reaction from Trinamool Congress on the large number of voters removed so far in Bhawanipur. However, opposition leader Adhikari said that due to the removal of such a large number of voter names from Bhawanipur, a situation of panic has arisen for the Chief Minister.
“There are no longer enough voters in Bhawanipur to ensure the Chief Minister’s victory in the assembly elections to be held this year,” the official said.
Recall that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had contested from Nandigram in the 2021 assembly elections. However, after losing to Adhikari, he retained the post of Chief Minister for the third consecutive time by winning the by-election in Bhawanipur.
