Kolkata, April 29 (IANS). Voting for the second phase of West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 is underway. During this, Trinamool Congress (TSC) leaders and candidates exercised their franchise and claimed to form the TMC government.

Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, TMC candidate from Ballygunge assembly constituency, expressed satisfaction over participation in the democratic process by showing his inked finger after voting. He said that voter participation is very good in various areas and people are coming out in large numbers to cast their votes.

Arindam Guinn, TMC candidate from Champdani assembly constituency, cast his vote along with his wife and daughter. At the same time, Chandrima Bhattacharya, minister and candidate in the West Bengal government, cast her vote at polling booth number 126 located at South Calcutta Arya Vidyalaya.

Regarding the voting process, TMC MP Saugata Roy said that till now everything is going well and voting is going on vigorously in Kolkata. He claimed that the credit for maintaining peace goes to political parties and not just paramilitary forces.

TMC candidate from Bagdha seat Madhuparna Thakur also described the voting process as peaceful. He said that the state police is doing a good job in conducting smooth voting. Also appealed especially to the young voters to vote in large numbers, because every vote is important.

During this period, reports of tension and controversy have also come to light from some places. TMC candidate from Bhangar, Shaukat Mollah, alleged atrocities by police on the night before voting. According to him, the policemen went door to door, broke doors and beat up people, due to which many people got injured and reached the hospital. He called it an attempt to scare the voters, but said that TMC workers are not afraid.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Thakur also stood in the queue and voted like ordinary voters. He said that in democracy everyone is equal and does not need any special facilities.

At the same time, TMC leaders have opposed BJP candidate Ratna Debnath visiting every booth. They allege that such activities could be an attempt to influence voters.
