Kolkata, June 18 (IANS). The West Bengal government will now participate in all water projects linked to the Union Jal Shakti Ministry. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made this announcement on Thursday.

He made this announcement through a post on social media after a meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil at the state secretariat Navan.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that Jal Jeevan Mission, the central government’s flagship scheme envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will now progress rapidly in West Bengal.

He said, “This mission is an important step towards realizing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide safe and clean drinking water to every household in the most remote areas of the state.”

Jal Jeevan Mission is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Jal Shakti of the Central Government. Its objective is to provide safe and adequate drinking water through tap to all households in rural areas. The scheme was launched in the year 2019 and has now been extended till the year 2028, to ensure long-term water security to all people.

The Chief Minister said that the West Bengal government will now also participate in important schemes like Namami Gange program and Jal Shakti Abhiyan in collaboration with the Jal Shakti Ministry. This will benefit the state and projects of national importance will be completed on time.

Suvendu Adhikari also targeted former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her government in his post. He alleged that the previous government was not enthusiastic about the state’s participation in central schemes related to the Jal Shakti Ministry.

“For a long time, the previous state government tried to stop, slow down and take credit for these important projects, but now that era of deprivation is over,” he said. The BJP government is committed to implementing these schemes on the ground without any hindrance.
