Lucknow, February 17 (IANS). Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey said that despite heavy police arrangements and administrative strictness, party workers will not back down and the struggle for the rights of workers will continue.
He said that for the last 40 days, efforts are being made to attract the attention of the government through chaupals and demonstrations in the entire state. According to Pandey, due to the changes made in MNREGA, the rights and entitlements of the workers have been completely snatched away. This movement is being launched to get back these rights and it will continue until the workers get their rights.
He said that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have already lodged a detailed protest on this issue. Pandey alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched to dismantle the law made to give rights to workers, which Congress will not allow to succeed at any cost.
Meanwhile, tight police vigil was seen in Lucknow to prevent Congress workers from reaching the Assembly. Police forces were deployed at many places and security was also increased outside the houses of the leaders.
Pandey strongly criticized the action of the administration, saying that it reflects the repressive mentality of the government. He said that like during the British times, the houses of Congress leaders have been converted into police cantonments, which the party strongly condemns.
He warned that if democracy is to be strengthened, the voice of the opposition will have to be heard. Otherwise the government that ignores the rights of the people will be thrown out of power.
