Chhattisgarh Watermelon Death Case: A very shocking case has come to light from Ghurkot village in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, where a 15-year-old teenager died after eating watermelon, while three other children fell seriously ill. After this incident there is panic in the entire area.

According to the information, the deceased has been identified as 15-year-old Akhilesh Dhiwar, who was a resident of Podi Dalha village. Akhilesh had come to visit his maternal uncle’s house with his relatives. The children including Akhilesh had eaten pre-cut watermelon at home. After a few hours, Akhilesh’s health suddenly started deteriorating. He started having serious problems like vomiting, diarrhea and difficulty in breathing. Gradually the same symptoms started appearing in the other three children also.
The children who fell ill have been identified as 4-year-old Shri Dhiwar of Avarid village, 12-year-old Pintu Dhiwar of Khatola village and 13-year-old Hitesh Dhiwar of Kotgarh. Seeing the condition of the children worsening, the family members immediately took them to the district hospital with the help of an ambulance. On reaching the hospital, doctors declared Akhilesh dead, while the other three children were admitted and treatment was started.
The truth will come out only after the forensic report comes.
In this case, Civil Surgeon of the District Hospital, Dr. S. Kujur told that the watermelon was cut in the morning and the children ate it several hours later. There is a possibility of infection developing in it due to it being kept in the open for a long time. According to doctors, in the initial investigation it seems to be a case of food poisoning. Dr. Kujur said that Akhilesh’s body has been sent for post-mortem and viscera samples have been preserved for forensic examination.
The second watermelon kept in the house has also been sent to the Food Safety Department for investigation. Officials say that the real reason for the death and deteriorating health of the children will become clear only after the forensic report comes. After this incident, the Health Department has appealed to the people not to keep cut fruits in the open for a long time and to check their freshness before eating them. Carelessness, especially in summer, can cause serious health problems.
