Chhattisgarh Cyclone Month: Cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ has deep impact on Chhattisgarh: Orange alert in South Bastar, damage to crops; Many trains rescheduled Raipur. The effect of cyclonic storm ‘Montha’, which became active in the Bay of Bengal, has now reached Chhattisgarh. In many districts of the state including the capital Raipur, the weather pattern has changed since morning and light drizzle has started. In view of the danger of this storm, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert till October 30, especially for South Chhattisgarh.
Warning of ‘heavy to very heavy’ rain in South Bastar. According to the report of the Meteorological Department, cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ is increasingly active in the coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal, especially in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, but its direct impact is on the southern part of Chhattisgarh.
Orange Alert: From today (October 28) to October 30, heavy to very heavy rain has been predicted at different places in South Chhattisgarh, especially Bastar division.
High Alert: In view of the impact of the storm, high alert has been issued in Dantewada district. People have been warned to stay away from rivers, mountains and picnic spots.
Harvested paddy crops drown, farmers worry increased
The continuous rains for the last two days have increased the worries of the farmers manifold. There has been huge damage to the paddy crop in areas like Antagarh and Koyalibera. At many places, harvested crops have been submerged in water. The crops standing in the fields have also been bent and ruined due to the strong storm, due to which farmers are facing huge financial loss. The administration has appealed to the farmers to be especially cautious.
Major changes in Railways for the safety of passengers
Due to cyclonic storm ‘Montha’, South-East Central Railway has affected the operation of many trains. In view of the intense impact of the storm in Andhra Pradesh, timings and routes of many trains have been changed for the safety of passengers:

New timing/route 17481 Bilaspur-Tirupati Express schedule (delayed by 7 hours) will depart today (28th October) at 22:35 hrs instead of its scheduled time of 15:35 hrs.
18189, 12703 Tatanagar-Ernakulam, Howrah-Secunderabad route diverted will now run via Raipur-Nagpur-Balharshah route.
22643, 22878, 22503, 18638 (Ernakulam-Patna) and other changed routes will now operate via Bilaspur-Jharsuguda.
Railways said that this change has been made temporarily due to adverse weather conditions. For the convenience of passengers, information about time change is being continuously given through announcements and display boards at the stations. Passengers have been appealed to check the latest timing of their train on the official website before leaving for the journey. As soon as the weather becomes normal, train operations will be restored as per the old schedule.
