Uttarakhand News: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the acquisition of Naini Saini Airport at Pithoragarh was signed today between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Government of Uttarakhand in the presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This historic agreement is an important step towards easy, safe and sustainable air connectivity in the hilly region of Uttarakhand.
The total area of Naini Saini Airport is approximately 70 acres. The terminal building here is capable of serving 40 passengers during peak hours. Also, the apron is equipped with the facility to accommodate two aircraft at a time (Code-2B).
This acquisition will upgrade the existing airport infrastructure, streamline management of operational parameters, and significantly improve the regional connectivity of Uttarakhand.
The development of Naini Saini Airport will give a new impetus to the local art, cultural heritage and tourism sector of the state. This will open new opportunities in business, pilgrimage tourism, education, health care and hospitality sectors and will create new dimensions of employment for the local youth.
This initiative will reinforce Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of accessible and sustainable aviation infrastructure and will also strengthen disaster-response capabilities in this strategic Himalayan region. This agreement will prove to be an important milestone in taking Uttarakhand towards new heights of development.
Apart from this, in the function organized on the occasion of birth anniversary of Uttarakhand state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of schemes worth ₹ 8260.72 crore.

Irrigation Department- Saung Dam Drinking Water Project – 2491.96 crores
The proposed Song Dam drinking water project in Dehradun and Tehri districts will supply 150 MLD drinking water in Dehradun district. A 130 meter high dam will be built in the project. This will improve the water supply of Dehradun city.
Jamrani Dam Drinking Water Project – 2584.10 crores
Jamrani Dam Project, proposed in Nainital district, is a multipurpose project. This will fulfill the needs of drinking water and irrigation as well as generate electricity. The project will irrigate an area of 57065 hectares and will also generate 14 MW electricity.

Flood protection scheme work at various places located on the right bank of Kalinadi in Dharchula of Pithoragarh district – Rs 140.22 crore.
Energy (Pitkul) – 400 KV Pipalkoti Switching Substation and related transmission line (1.0 circuit km) in Pipalkoti of Chamoli district – 340.29 crores.
220 KV substation (60 MVA) in Ghansali of Tehri district (State funded) – 277.23 crores.
Energy (UREDA) – Installation of solar power plants in government buildings in all the districts – 129.37 crores.
220 KV substation (100 MVA) and related transmission line (0.3 circuit km) at Banbasa in Champawat (State funded) – 223.71 crore.
Sports Department-District. “Women’s Sports College will be established in Champawat district for the development of sports skills of women players in Lohaghat of Champawat” – 256.96 crores.

Tourism- Tourism development works of Tehri and Dehradun districts – 58.21 crores.
Medical Education – Night shelter for the attendants of patients admitted in Dehradun and Haldwani – 55.00 crores
