FIFA World Cup 2026: FIFA has faced an uncomfortable situation due to a technical glitch during the ticket sales of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Football fans bought World Cup tickets without paying. This caused loss to FIFA. Admitting its mistake, football’s global body has canceled the tickets purchased without payment and has appealed to the fans to pay the price.
Around 60 fans got wrong ticket allocation
According to FIFA, “Approximately 60 fans were sent an official message on 3 June informing them that due to a payment issue that occurred during the checkout process, their tickets had been allocated without any payment fees. This was a technical error and the actual price of the tickets could not be correctly reflected in the system. The tickets purchased by fans will be kept safe and they are invited to pay the correct amount.”
Incorrect price entry due to system error
An alleged e-mail related to the case has also surfaced, which was shared online by TicketTalk network. According to the email, FIFA has identified and corrected the error in ticket pricing. The organization said that due to this problem which occurred on FIFA’s official ticketing website on 21 May 2026, some tickets appeared at the wrong price at the time of checkout and the transaction was also completed on that basis.
Payment will have to be completed within the time limit of seven days
The e-mail informed affected customers that all ticket orders that included mispriced tickets had been canceled under normal sales rules. It was also clarified that if any payment has been made for the concerned order, its full refund will be given. The e-mail said the tickets would be reserved in their FIFA ticketing account for seven days. If the purchase is not completed within this period the reserved tickets will be deleted.
Controversy already over high profile ticket prices
This development has come to light at a time when there is already debate over the high prices of tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026. In April, four World Cup final tickets were available for sale on FIFA’s resale website, with prices reaching approximately US$2.3 million per ticket. The price of these seats listed for the final match to be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19 had shocked football fans around the world.
