
Neeraj Chopra, famous as star javelin thrower and ‘Golden Boy’, has received a big honor in the Indian Army. On Tuesday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh conferred the title of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army to Neeraj Chopra at a ceremony held in South Block, New Delhi.
Responsibility is greater than respect
Responding to this honour, Neeraj Chopra wrote on social media platform ‘X’, “This is more than an honor for me. It is a responsibility towards my country. Proud to wear this uniform.” He expressed his gratitude to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the Territorial Army.
Symbol of patriotism and excellence
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised Neeraj Chopra, saying he “epitomizes the Indian spirit of determination, patriotism and excellence”. He emphasized that Neeraj Chopra has become a source of inspiration not only in the sports world but for the entire country with his discipline and dedication on the field. Neeraj Chopra has a deep connection with the army. He joined the Rajputana Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army in the year 2016.
Bringing glory to the country with achievements
Born in Khandra village of Panipat district of Haryana, Neeraj has made both the Indian Army and the country proud with his brilliant achievements: Tokyo Olympics 2020: Won India’s first gold medal in track and field.
Paris Olympics 2024: Won silver medal.
World Athletics Championships 2023: Won gold medal.
For his exceptional contribution towards the service of the nation, President Draupadi Murmu awarded him Honorary Commission in the Territorial Army on 16 April 2025. He has also been awarded many prestigious military honors including Padma Shri, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, Arjun Award.
