New Delhi, April 20 (IANS). The government on Monday said at least 100 entities have so far been added as ‘Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs)’ to promote Aadhaar-based offline verification. This feat has been achieved within just three months of the launch of this system.

This milestone achieved by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is considered a major step towards promoting secure, paperless and user consent based identity verification.

According to the Ministry of Electronics and IT, these 100 organizations include central and state government departments, fintech companies, hotel and event management firms, education and examination institutions, and organizations involved in background and workforce verification.

The ministry said that with the joining of these institutions, delivery of services will be faster, processing time will be reduced and dependence on physical documents will be reduced.

In Aadhaar offline verification system, users can share their limited and essential information through QR code or digitally signed document. With this, the user has complete control over his data and can decide which information to share with whom.

The government says that this system has been designed keeping in mind data security and privacy, which is increasing people’s confidence.

According to the ministry, this arrangement is also an important step towards building a strong digital public infrastructure in the country, as it provides a scalable and secure system.

The government believes that this will improve the ‘ease of living’, as people will now get services faster, paper work will be less and daily tasks will become easier.
