New Delhi, November 13 (IANS). In most markets of the world, two or three players dominate the e-commerce segment. According to a latest report, the same pattern is now being seen in the food delivery and quick commerce sectors in India, where the top two to three firms maintain control over a large part of the market.
The quick commerce ecosystem in India seems to be following a similar trend, with larger players capturing more and more market share on the back of their rapid growth, technological advancement and operational efficiency.
Bernstein Research’s report states that quick commerce will be seen leading in the top cities of India, while modern trade retail supermarkets will retain their authority in the next 400 cities.
The report said that quick commerce will be the leader in the top 40 cities, the next 400 cities will be dominated by modern trade, while the last 4000 cities will be dominated by general trade.
At the same time, general trades like grocery and pop shops will remain leaders in small cities, towns and villages.
With rapidly evolving dynamics at the urban level, India’s Internet economy is entering a new fresh phase of rapid growth.
The report estimates that general trade will lag behind quick commerce and e-commerce.
Quick Commerce will lead the retail channel in India’s top urban markets based on speedy delivery, convenience and efficient logistics network.
However, MT and EC will also retain their important place in areas like product cataloging and cost competitiveness.
MT retailers are focusing on margins, especially in semi-urban areas. At the same time, quick commerce and e-commerce platforms are increasing significant investments in warehouse networks and logistics optimization to cut costs.
The report said that India’s top 40 cities, home to 20 crore people and with 1700 pin codes, remain the hub of the digital economy. Additionally, these cities have also become key hubs for growth and consumption in the country’s changing retail landscape.
