New Delhi, May 22 (IANS). Global industry leaders and prominent figures from the Indian-American community on Friday said Adani Group’s proposed multi-billion dollar investment in the US is helping change the global perception of Indian companies.
Speaking to IANS, he described it as a big boost for India-US economic relations, employment generation and strategic cooperation.
Republican leader Punit Ahluwalia, who was among US President Donald Trump’s election advisors during his first term, said Adani Group’s proposed investments reflect the growing contribution of Indian companies and professionals to the US economy.
“I think this is a very positive step. President Trump, who has done a tremendous job in rebalancing the global order, wants to work with such talented and experienced people,” he said.
Speaking to IANS, Ahluwalia said, “Successful Indian-origin CEOs and hardworking American citizens are creating opportunities for America, but having a company like Adani Group coming to America will be even more helpful for us.”
On the question of whether the earlier action taken against Adani Group was politically motivated, Ahluwalia said he “would not be surprised” if there were political reasons involved.
He said, “I am pleased that President Trump’s strong leadership, which is visible around the world and in strengthening the India-US partnership, is moving in the right direction.”
Meanwhile, BJP USA President Adapa Prasad said it was important for US prosecutors to drop the case as authorities admitted they did not have enough evidence.
“This was a malicious report designed to destabilize India’s growth story,” Prasad said. He said the eventual closure of the case proved that “the truth prevailed.”
Khanderao Kand, founding director of the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies, said stronger economic cooperation between India and the US should no longer be limited to just investment, but should also include deeper cooperation in research, people-to-people movements and policy reforms.
“This is a good step. This will strengthen the India-US partnership and it should be taken forward continuously,” Kand told IANS.
He said that closer cooperation in industrialization, joint research and development, skill-based mobility and market access will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries and provide strategic benefits in the long run.
