Microsoft has decided to discontinue its email app, Outlook Lite. According to the report, this app will stop working properly after May 26, 2026. Although the app may still open, its features will stop working. Outlook Lite was launched in 2022, specifically for Android users whose devices had less storage or who lived in areas with slow internet speeds.

Why was this decision taken?
According to TechCrunch, Microsoft had already started preparations to shut down this app. The company had announced in 2025 itself that Outlook Lite would be removed from the Google Play Store, and after this downloading it was also stopped from October 2025. Now Microsoft aims to move all users to the main Outlook Mobile app, which offers more features and better support.

What effect will this have on users?
According to a report by Neowin, it will become almost impossible to use Outlook Lite after May 25, 2026. Users won’t be able to access their mailboxes, and critical app functions—like navigation and other options—will stop working. Therefore, existing users are advised to migrate to the new app as soon as possible so that their work continues without any interruption.

Will your data be safe?
The good news is that this change will not cause any harm to user data. Emails, calendar entries and attachments will not be deleted. Users can easily recover all their data in the new Outlook Mobile app by logging in with their existing account.

How to switch to new app
Microsoft has made the process of changing apps easier for users. There is an “Upgrade” option directly within the Outlook Lite app; On clicking this option, the user goes directly to Google Play Store, from where Outlook Mobile app can be downloaded. Apart from this, users can also go to Play Store and search for the app and install it. The demise of Outlook Lite will certainly bring some changes for users who relied on this lightweight app; However, the new Outlook app is expected to offer more features and a better user experience, perhaps making things easier for users.
