Apple kicked off one of its big annual events, WWDC 2026, yesterday (June 8). During the event, the tech company gave Apple fans a first glimpse of the upcoming software upgrades for its ecosystem. This also includes the iPhone, as the company introduced the new iOS 27, which is scheduled to roll out by the end of the year.
Although there is still some time for the stable version of this new operating system to arrive, Apple has started giving early access to it to some selected users through its developer beta program. Shortly after the launch of iOS 27, reports surfaced about hints hidden in the software that point towards a foldable iPhone in the future. Even though Apple hasn’t officially announced a foldable iPhone, there are several things in the new software that point towards its development.
**Hints of foldable iPhone found in iOS 27 code**
In a recent post, tipster Sam Henry Gold revealed that the new code found in iOS 27 includes terms like ‘foldState’ and ‘AngleDegrees’. These terms are associated with foldable devices; As the name suggests, these can be used to give explicit instructions to the OS about how to act when the device is folded or tilted to a particular angle.
The developers have also introduced a new framework key that can identify different in-built displays on the device. The absence of these indicators in iOS 26 and their appearance in iOS 27 makes this discovery special. 9to5Mac has also confirmed the presence of these things in the iOS 27 code in its report.
**When will Apple’s foldable iPhone be launched?**
According to reports, this device may launch in September 2026 along with iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The device may have a book-style design, with a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch cover screen.
