If you use Google Chrome, you need to be careful. A flaw has been found in this browser that allows cyber attackers to target your system, steal data and install malware. Additionally, in many cases, attackers can even shut down the system completely. In view of these flaws, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-severity alert. Google Chrome is the world’s most used browser and millions of people in India use it for everything from work to home.
What is written in the warning?
This flaw in Google Chrome has been identified as CVE-2025-12036. Hackers can take advantage of this flaw to target systems running on Windows, macOS and Linux. The warning says that users using versions older than 41.0.7390.122/.123 on Chrome and macOS and older than 141.0.7390.122 on Linux are at greater risk. This means that hackers are targeting users who have not updated their Chrome browser recently.
This is how users can be targeted
Due to a vulnerability discovered in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine, attackers can redirect users to malicious websites. This allows them to execute arbitrary commands and install malware on the user’s system. Apart from this, there is also a risk of data theft and system crash.
What should users do now?
CERT-In has advised users to update Google Chrome as soon as possible. The company has released security patches to address these vulnerabilities, and they can be installed by updating Chrome. To do this, open Chrome and go to Help and click About Google Chrome. If you see any pending updates, install them immediately.
