New Delhi, November 19 (IANS). India’s travel industry is witnessing a major transformation and is witnessing a surge in customer confidence and spending. This information was given in the report released on Wednesday.

According to a Kantar report commissioned by Google, 88 percent of travelers in India want to travel. At the same time, the focus of the industry is on premiumization and value maximization.

The report said that in domestic travel, 72 percent passengers give less importance to cost and 81 percent passengers spend more than expected. This premiumization is also increasing rapidly in global trips where the average spend is 3.2 times that of domestic travel.

Saurabh Kapadia, head of travel and foodtech at Google India, said, traveling has now become a form of self-expression. However, there is still no uniformity in booking methods and we are seeing our digital ecosystem simplify this complexity.

The air sector is also mainly benefiting from the increasing travel in the country.

Domestic passenger traffic is estimated at 14.2 million in October, which is 4.5 percent year-on-year and 12.9 percent more than September.

Rating agency ICRA said the increase in the number of passengers is also due to capacity expansion, as the number of domestic departures in October stood at 99,816, which is 10.8 percent higher on a monthly basis and 1.7 percent higher on an annual basis.

ICRA expects international passenger traffic for Indian airlines to grow by 13-15 per cent in FY26, supported by expanded international routes and increased aircraft availability.

At the same time, considering the demand of passengers, new airports are also opening in the country. Commercial operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport will begin from December 25. At the same time, Noida International Airport may be inaugurated in the coming years.
