New Delhi, April 2 (IANS). The government said on Thursday that India’s defense exports have registered a big increase in the financial year 2025-26 and it has increased to a record Rs 38,424 crore, which is 62.66 percent more than Rs 23,622 crore in the previous financial year.

According to the government, both Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and the private sector contributed significantly to this achievement. The share of DPSUs in total exports was 54.84 percent and that of private companies was 45.16 percent.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that this achievement is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of including India among the major defense exporting countries of the world.

DPSU exports registered a sharp growth of 151 per cent over last year, while the private sector also showed its strong presence by registering a growth of 14 per cent.

In value terms, the private sector exported Rs 17,353 crore, while the contribution of DPSUs was Rs 21,071 crore. In the last financial year, these figures were Rs 15,233 crore and Rs 8,389 crore respectively.

India is now not only a trusted global partner for defense systems and sub-systems, but is also exporting defense equipment to more than 80 countries by FY 2026. Additionally, the number of exporters has also increased from 128 to 145, an increase of 13.3 percent.

This shows that Indian defense products are increasingly being accepted globally and the sector is strengthening its place in the international supply chain.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh appreciated this excellent performance and said that India is moving fast towards becoming a global hub in the field of defense equipment manufacturing.

He said on social media platform X that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is writing a new success story in the field of defense exports.

According to the government, India’s defense industry has now become more competitive and performance-based due to continuous efforts to improve the ‘ease of doing business’ and provide facilities to exporters.
