Since October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines has completely banned the use of power bank in its flights. Passengers can now take only one power bank (with a capacity of 100 watt-hours) in their carry-on bags, but it is strictly prohibited to use or charge it during the flight. Passengers may suffer inconvenience if this rule is not followed.

What do new guidelines say?
According to the new rules, passengers will be allowed to be taken to only one power bank, provided their power capacity is less than 100 watt-hours and this information is clearly displayed on the bag. However, the power bank will not be allowed to charge any equipment in the aircraft or use the power bank from the power supply of the aircraft.

Some important rules related to power bank:
Power banks can only be carried in carry-on bags, not in check-in bags.
They will not be allowed to be kept in overhead bin. Passengers will have to place them in seat pockets or under the front seat.
Power banks should be in reach of passengers so that the flight team can react immediately in an emergency.
In the event of overheating or malfunction, the power bank should be immediately displayed in front of the crew.

Why did Emirates take this step?

Power banks with lithium-ion battery are at risk of thermal runway. This situation occurs when the battery temperature increases uncontrollably, which causes a fire or explosion. Cheap or cheap power banks further increase this risk as they do not have security facilities such as auto-show-off or temperature control.

Other airlines around the world are also taking a tough stance
Emirates is not the only airline to take this step. Prominent airlines like Singapore Airlines, Cathe Pacific, Korean Air, Eva Air, China Airlines and AirAsia have already banned the use of power banks. The decision was taken in 2023 after several incidents, including a fire in an Air Busan flight. 27 passengers were injured in the accident, and it is believed that the reason was the power bank.

What passengers should take care of
To avoid safety and discomfort, passengers must take some precautions.
Charge your equipment before traveling.
Use seat charging points available in flight.
His capacity (less than 100Wh) should be mentioned on the power bank.
Never keep it in check-in goods.
Follow the crew’s instructions, otherwise the power bank may be confiscated or they may be prevented from climbing into the aircraft.
This new rule of Emirates is made keeping in mind the safety of the passengers. Now, passengers have to take care of these guidelines before flying.
