Apple has removed Tea and TeaOnHer, two dating apps that went viral when they launched earlier this year, from its official App Store. Both these dating apps were specially designed for women. Following complaints from users, Apple removed these from its App Stores worldwide. Many users raised serious concerns and claimed that these violate privacy rules. After a lengthy investigation, Apple decided to remove these apps on October 21. iPhone users will no longer be able to access these apps.
These apps went viral overnight
Earlier this year, both these dating apps went viral overnight. One of these was a unique feature that allowed users to post feedback about their dating partners. According to app analytics firm Appfigures, Apple cited receiving user complaints about these apps as the reason behind their removal. These apps also violated some privacy rules.
Personal information of minors was visible
The report also claimed that personal information of minors was visible on these platforms. The company contacted the developers several times and issued warnings. However, user complaints continued to grow, leading Apple to remove these apps.
Violated these rules of App Store
Apple confirmed to TechCrunch that both apps violated App Store rules related to content moderation, user privacy, and overall compliance. The Tea app, launched in 2023, is a platform where women share their experiences with men they met on dating apps. These were marked as Red Flag and Green Flag.
