BSNL KYC suspension claim is fake, PIB Fact Check issues alert

New Delhi, March 17 (IANS). These days, a message is becoming increasingly viral on social media and messaging platforms, in which it is being claimed that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has suspended the KYC process of customers on the instructions of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the SIM card will be blocked within 24 hours. Now the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has revealed the truth on this entire matter and has called this notice completely fake.

PIB’s Fact Check team, while sharing the post on social media platform X, clarified that no such notice has been issued by BSNL or TRAI. PIB cautioned the people and said that such messages are completely fake and their purpose is only to mislead people.

According to PIB, BSNL never sends such KYC suspension notices to customers through SMS or social media. Moreover, no customer’s mobile connection is blocked suddenly and arbitrarily in the name of KYC.

According to experts, cyber fraudsters often send such fake messages using the names of telecom companies. In these messages, people are intimidated by threatening that their SIM will be switched off so that they commit any mistake in a hurry.

Their real objective is to make the user click on a suspicious link, share his OTP or give sensitive information like Aadhaar number, bank details and login information. Once this information is in their hands, fraudsters can easily commit banking fraud.

In such cases, caution is the best protection. Avoid clicking on any unknown link, whether it comes through SMS, WhatsApp or email. Never share OTP or KYC document through phone call or unofficial link.

If you get any such message, then confirm it from the official website of BSNL or customer care center. Apart from this, complaint about such fake messages can also be made on cyber crime helpline or official portal cybercrime.gov.in.

The government and agencies are constantly making people aware against such fake messages, but the most important thing is that the users themselves remain alert. A little carelessness can put you in big loss, so ignore any suspicious message and keep your personal information safe.
