New Delhi, February 18 (IANS). The controversy has deepened after Galgotias University described a Chinese robot dog as its invention ‘Orion’ at the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’. In the same event, IT company Wipro Limited also displayed a Chinese robot dog.
However, company sources say that Wipro is a software company and has never claimed that it is a hardware company.
Sources said on Wednesday that his case is completely different from that of Galgotias University and he does not have any full-fledged robot of his own.
Speaking to the media during the summit, a representative from Wipro introduced an AI-powered robot dog named ‘TJ’. He told that this robot can work in place of humans in risky situations like disasters and accidents. This AI robot dog named ‘Go2’ has been manufactured by Chinese robotics company Unitri.
Amid the controversy, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Wednesday that action has been taken against the irregularities in the AI Summit Expo.
Vaishnav told the media, “Many good solutions have been introduced at the AI Summit Expo, and if anyone has done wrong, immediate action has been taken against him. However, people should also pay attention to other good AI solutions.”
This statement of the minister has come amidst the increased political debate regarding the Chinese robot dog named ‘Orion’.
However, the university described the controversy as a blown out affair and said its aim was to work in line with the mission and vision of the government. But whatever it may be, this entire incident has given the opposition an opportunity to target the government.
According to sources, Galgotias University has been asked to remove its stall from the AI Expo, but the representatives present at the stall said that they were not aware of any such information.
The controversy started on Tuesday when a representative of the university described the robot dog as an invention of its Center of Excellence and informed the media about its features and technical specifications. After this the matter rapidly came into limelight.
