Dhaka, November 9 (IANS). Dengue continues to wreak havoc in Bangladesh. Six more people died of the disease in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, taking the total dengue death toll to 313.

According to the United News of Bangladesh report, 1,195 new patients were hospitalized during the same period, taking the total number of dengue cases in 2025 to 78,543.

Two new deaths were recorded in Dhaka South City Corporation, two in Dhaka North City Corporation and two in Barishal division.

Currently, 1,150 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka, while 3,337 patients are admitted in hospitals in other parts of Bangladesh.

According to the DGHS report, this year, 62.3 percent of dengue patients were men and 37.7 percent were women. Of those who died, 52.7 percent were men and 47.3 percent were women.

Abu Jafar, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, said that the number of dengue cases in 2025 is more than last year. However, the mortality rate is low.

Speaking at a press conference organized at the Health Ministry on ‘Typhoid Vaccination Campaign-2025’, he said that the number of dengue infections this year is higher than last year, but the mortality rate in proportion to the infection is lower, United News of Bangladesh reported.

He described the destruction of mosquito breeding and their larvae as important for the prevention of dengue. “People should use mosquito nets and take preventive measures. These are mostly individual responsibilities. If we neglect them, it will be very difficult to eradicate dengue,” he said.

He said that our data shows that more than 50 percent of the deaths due to dengue in hospitals are occurring on the very first day of admission. This shows that patients are also looking for care. We are trying our best to ensure proper management in hospitals.
