Posts like the viral video “ChiChi Call” are spreading rapidly on social media these days. If you see links related to a leaked video call or an alleged scandal in your feed, clicking on them without thinking can prove costly. According to cyber experts, this entire incident is part of a deliberate online fraud called Ghost File Scam.
Who was targeted?
The trend is being linked to Filipina lifestyle and travel influencer Vera Hill, known online as ChiChi. It is being claimed that one of his private videos has been leaked. However, no such original video is available on any reliable source. Analysts say that the clips circulating on TikTok, Facebook, Telegram and Reddit are either edited or misleadingly shown as someone else’s video.
This has happened before
According to reports, the same gang has previously run a similar ghost file scam using false tags like “Pinay Gold Medalist” and other names. This means that this is not a new method, but a modified version of an old scam.
How does Ghost File Scam work?
This scam relies on SEO poisoning techniques. Scammers flood internet search results with blogs and pages containing keywords such as “ChiChi Video Call Full”. As soon as a user clicks on the link, he or she is redirected to a fake streaming page. This is where the real game begins; The user’s IP address can be captured immediately.
A fake Facebook Age Verification login page may open. They may be redirected to a phishing site that steals login details. The message asking you to install a plugin to watch the video is actually malware. This malware can perform keylogging, which can compromise sensitive information like banking passwords.
recognize red flags
Be alert if repeatedly clicking on a link opens different websites, or a login page suddenly appears. Ignore messages like “Install plugin”. Do not download any unknown extensions.
Legal risks are also not less
In India, creating and spreading private or deepfake content without consent is a criminal offence. For this, there can be punishment under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Indian Justice Code. Sharing such so-called viral videos, whether real or fake, can land you in legal trouble.
What to do?
Avoid clicking on any such sensational links. Verify information from trusted sources and avoid forwarding misleading content. Remember, not everything that goes viral is true; Sometimes it’s just a digital deception.
