New Delhi, June 5 (IANS). Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR following repeated attempts of cyber attacks on the CBSE Post-Result Services portal. On the complaint of the board, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the police has registered a case and started investigation. The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
CBSE said in the complaint that several coordinated and technologically advanced cyber attacks were carried out targeting its Post-Result Services portal. This portal is very important for lakhs of students across the country, because through this, students apply for verification of their results, revaluation and other post-result services.
It is a matter of relief that despite these attacks, there was no breach in any data, system or database of CBSE. The Board has clarified that its entire digital infrastructure is secure and no case of any data leak or unauthorized access has come to light.
According to the information, attempts to carry out cyber attacks on the portal had started on June 2, the same day when the application process for verification and revaluation started. The portal was operational from 7 am and continued to function normally throughout the day despite the continuous attacks. Students did not face any service disruption.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the attacker was trying to destabilize the portal, disrupt access of legitimate users and gain unauthorized access to information. CBSE has described these attacks as potentially harmful to the national interest.
Considering the seriousness and well-planned manner of the attacks, the Board has demanded a detailed investigation from the IFSO Unit and strict legal action against the culprits.
CBSE said all the attacks were foiled with the help of 24-hour surveillance and quick response system. During this period, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team and other cyber security agencies of the Central Government also provided technical support.
