After banning money games, Modi government has now taken action against 242 illegally running betting and gambling websites and blocked these sites. So far, the government has shut down more than 7,800 illegal betting and gambling websites, and this action has intensified after the passage of the Online Gaming Act. According to government sources, this action shows the government’s commitment to protect users, especially the youth, and prevent financial and social harm caused by illegal online betting and gambling platforms.

The central government is concerned that these illegal websites are targeting the youth and luring them with easy money and getting them addicted to drugs. The ban on money gaming and now the action on betting websites clearly shows the government’s commitment to do everything possible to prevent youth and others from falling into the trap of these sites.

The government is adopting both technological and legal measures to control these illegal platforms. The continued action clearly shows the government’s intention to keep an eye on betting and gambling sites in the future and take consistent action against them. The government will not tolerate such betting sites and will take the strictest action against those who violate the rules.

In 2022, many illegal sites were shut down
According to media reports, from 2022, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has ordered the closure of more than 1,400 illegal betting and gambling websites and apps. After the Online Gaming Bill 2025 was passed by the Parliament, the government is taking swift action against illegal sites.
