It’s not always easy to find out if someone has blocked you on WhatsApp. Until now, most people relied on signals like a missing profile photo, only a tick mark appearing on a message, or calls not being answered. However, these methods are not always reliable, as such problems can also be caused by changes in privacy settings or other reasons. Now, a new report suggests that WhatsApp’s encryption verification feature may provide a more reliable signal in this regard.
The best part is that to use this method you do not need to send a message or call the other person. This feature was originally created to check whether your chat is protected with end-to-end encryption (E2EE). To use it, simply open a chat, tap the contact’s name and select the encryption option. After this WhatsApp will automatically try to verify the encryption status of the chat. According to the report, if the verification is completed successfully, it means that the chat is working normally. However, if WhatsApp repeatedly fails automatic verification and suggests another method of verification, it may be a sign that the other user has blocked you.
**There is no official way to detect blocking**
However, this cannot be considered as definitive evidence of blocking. WhatsApp has not officially said that the encryption feature can be used to circumvent the block; Therefore, this should only be seen as a possible sign.
Another special thing about this feature is that other users do not get any notification. This means you can get an idea of the situation without sending a message or making a call.
It is worth noting that WhatsApp introduced the automatic encryption verification feature in 2023. Previously, users had to compare a 60-digit security code or scan a QR code to verify the security of a chat. The new system has made this entire process much easier.
