New Delhi, June 29 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday said that he held an important meeting with Greece’s Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, in which further strengthening of the economic partnership between India and Greece was discussed.
“We also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in the fields of manufacturing, startups and emerging technologies to ensure shared prosperity of both the countries,” Piyush Goyal said in a post on social media platform X.
He said that during the meeting, discussions were also held on furthering India-Greece economic partnership through trade, investment, industrial cooperation and strong supply chain between the two countries.
It is noteworthy that Union Minister Piyush Goyal is currently on a visit to Greece with a high-level Indian business delegation, the main objective of which is to increase trade and investment between the two countries as well as strengthen strategic economic cooperation. This information was given in an official statement released on Sunday.
During the visit to Greece, the Indian delegation will participate in the presentation and startup pitch program organized at the Athens Startup Business Incubator (THEA). This platform will provide an opportunity to new generation startups to showcase their capabilities and promote innovation-based partnerships between the two countries.
The delegation will also hold a special roundtable with Indian and Greek industry leaders at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
In these meetings, possibilities of increasing cooperation in important areas like infrastructure, digitalization, defence, food processing and agriculture will be discussed. Also, new ways will be explored to strengthen partnership between the private sector.
According to the official statement, the visit will conclude with meetings with leading business and institutional representatives of Greece. The aim of these meetings is to strengthen partnerships between industries and expand trade relations between the two countries.
Piyush Goyal had successfully completed a three-day visit to Britain last week. During this, he participated in the ‘India-UK: Partners in Progress Business Plenary’ program organized in London.
In this event, prominent industry representatives from both the countries supported the proposed India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). He believes that this agreement will prove to take trade and investment relations to new heights.
The statement said that after Britain, this visit to Greece takes forward the policy of the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under which the aim is to strengthen global economic partnerships, encourage innovation-led growth and give new strength to India’s trade and investment diplomacy in key international markets.
