New Delhi, 9 September (IANS). A good news came from Europe for India’s sea food industry. The European Union (EU) has listed 102 new Indian fisheries establishments for export to member countries from India. This information was given by the government on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, this significant expansion reflects the growing confidence globally in India’s Food Safety and Quality Assurance systems and is a major step towards raising the market access to Indian sea food products, especially aquatic agricultural shrimp and saffelopods (squid, cutal fish and octopus).
The European Union has taken this decision after several meetings held in New Delhi, including Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and senior officials of the Department of Commerce, resulting in the confidence in India’s control mechanism implemented by the Export Inspection Council (EIC).
Indian seafood exports meet strict international standards, especially the standards set by the European Union.
This reflects India’s commitment to food security, tradition and compliance with the European Union rules and strengthens India’s position as a reliable supplier of high quality seafood.
This is expected to increase export quantity, employment generation and foreign exchange income.
The ministry said, “This development is expected to increase the European Union to increase in sea food exports of India, which is one of the most attractive and quality-sensitive markets globally. With the involvement of these new establishments, exporters of various coastal states and union territories will now have better opportunities to take advantage of the European Union’s demand, to diverse their products and strengthen business relations.”
The Department of Commerce has reiterated its commitment to support exporters through policy ease, infrastructure development and capacity building.
The EIC and EIAS will continue to play an important role in ensuring that Indian sea food products follow international norms, protecting public health and increase India’s global reputation.
It corresponds to the overall atmosphere of optimism and increasing belief in each other’s product standards by both sides.
