New Delhi, January 29 (IANS). The government has launched a new Aadhaar mobile app, which aims to make identity verification faster, safer and easier for the common people. With the help of this app, people can keep their digital identity in their mobile phones and share it whenever needed.

Through this app, the user will not need to show the hard copy of the Aadhar card or give its photocopy. The user can share only that information as is necessary for a particular task. With this, identity checks can be done quickly at airports, hotels, hospitals and different service platforms.

The special thing about this app is that offline Aadhaar verification can be done through QR code, like at the time of check-in at a hotel. Apart from this, face verification to verify the identity of the person and age verification for services like movie ticket booking has also been provided.

According to the government statement, this Aadhaar app has been designed keeping in mind every type of user. This includes features like scanning QR codes for hotel check-in, face verification if needed, age verification for cinema tickets, entry of visitors or attendants in hospitals and identity verification of gig workers and service partners.

With this app, the user can lock or unlock his Aadhaar biometric data in just one click. Additionally, users can view the complete history of their Aadhaar authentication and manage up to five Aadhaar profiles in a single mobile under the ‘One Family-One App’ feature.

Now with the help of this app, the user can also update the mobile number registered in his Aadhaar. This will reduce the need to visit banks or Aadhaar centers for small changes. The government said that more updated services will be added to this app in future.

The government clarified that the agencies verifying the Aadhaar number will not store the information shared through the app. Only digitally signed and verified data will be shared, which will reduce the risk of misuse and will be in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) law.

This app has been developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and was launched by Jitin Prasad, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics and IT.

Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology S. Krishnan said that this new app will promote the idea of minimizing data sharing and will allow Aadhaar holders to choose and share their information in a secure manner.

Senior UIDAI officials said that this is a big step from paper to a completely digital system. The biggest feature of the app is that the user can share only that information as per the need, which is necessary for a particular task, that too through customized QR code.
