In the modern era, heart diseases have emerged as a major challenge; However, scientists from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand have made a historic breakthrough in this field. Professor ACS Rao of the Department of Computer Science has developed a revolutionary technology named ‘EcoPulse’. This technology is a unique combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR)—a combination that is designed to not only speed up the diagnosis of heart diseases, but also make the process much more accurate and transparent.
What is ‘EcoPulse’, and how does it work?
Generally, interpreting and analyzing echocardiography reports can be a very complex task. However, ‘EcoPulse’ technology analyzes this data in an automated manner. Its most special thing is its ‘self-supervised learning’ model. This model can instantly detect the heart’s pumping ability and recognize hidden patterns, even in the absence of any previous data. Through this technology, doctors will be able to see the heartbeats in 3D form in a virtual reality environment, which will make it easier to understand the severity and depth of the disease.
A lifeline for rural India
In a huge country like India—where there is a severe shortage of medical experts in rural areas—this technology is nothing less than a boon. With the help of ‘EcoPulse’, General Practitioners deployed in remote areas will be able to conduct expert level diagnostic tests. This technology simplifies complex medical data to such an extent that any health professional can make immediate life-saving decisions.
National support and future vision
Recognizing the importance of Professor Rao’s invention, the National Research Foundation (ANRF) has approved funding of ₹47 lakh for this project. Professor Rao’s main objective is to make medical imaging “doctor-friendly”, thereby ensuring greater transparency in the treatment process.
This invention is not only set to reduce the burden of heart diseases in India but also enhance India’s reputation in the global medical community. In the coming years, this technology is going to prove to be a major milestone in the effort to make healthcare services accessible and smart for every citizen.
