New Delhi, October 30 (IANS). Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), said India is emerging as a global cybersecurity hub with over 400 startups and a skilled workforce of over 6.5 lakh professionals, powering a $20 billion cybersecurity industry.
He said that these innovators are creating advanced solutions for threat detection, cyber forensics and AI based monitoring systems, thereby strengthening India’s commitment to building a secure and strong digital ecosystem.
Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) and Ministry of Electronics and IT in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs organized an interactive session for journalists from European Union countries.
Presiding over the event, Dr. Sanjay Bahl said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) acts like a double-edged sword, enabling both defenders and adversaries.
He elaborated on how CERT-In leverages AI-driven analytics and automation to detect, prevent and respond to cyber incidents in real time.
Journalists present at the event were briefed on CERT-In’s ongoing practices, capacity building initiatives and international collaborations.
Giving information, Dr. Bahl said that India had reported 147 ransomware incidents in 2024, in which CERT-In’s coordinated action reduced their impact to a great extent through real-time intelligence sharing and forensic interventions.
In this session, the roles and responsibilities of CERT-In regarding crisis management, vulnerability assessment, knowledge sharing and coordinated response to cyber incidents were discussed.
Dr. Bahl emphasized that CERT-In issues timely alerts and advisories to organizations and citizens against emerging threats, thereby ensuring proactive security without creating unnecessary fear.
