New Delhi, July 13 (IANS). Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh on Monday said India is entering a new phase of governance through next generation administrative and e-governance reforms by keeping Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital platforms at the centre.
According to an official statement, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the two-day National Conference on ‘Next Generation Administrative and e-Governance Reforms’ held in Shillong, jointly organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Government of Meghalaya.
Referring to the administrative reforms undertaken in the last decade, Dr. Singh said that the government has abolished about 2,000 irrelevant and outdated rules. He said that artificial intelligence, cyber security, digital public infrastructure and citizen-centric service platforms will be given a prominent place in future administrative reforms.
He said that more than 56 crore Jan Dhan accounts, Aadhaar-based services, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) have completely transformed the relationship between the government and citizens.
The Minister said that today UPI processes more than 18 billion digital transactions every month, making India a global leader in the field of digital payments.
He said that the government has moved from a regulatory role to a facilitator role and has placed citizens at the center from policy formulation to delivery of public services.
Dr Singh informed that the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) has transformed the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) into the world’s largest technology-driven grievance redressal platform.
He said that whereas in the year 2014, about 2 lakh complaints were registered annually, now this number has increased to about 25 lakh.
According to the minister, now the facility of multilingual AI chatbot has also been added to this platform. However, human intervention has been maintained for redressal of complaints in the final stage, so that efficiency as well as sensitivity is maintained in the process.
Dr Jitendra Singh also mentioned the special campaign being run for disposal of pending cases and cleanliness. He said that till now, revenue of more than Rs 4,000 crore has been generated through scientific disposal of scrap and obsolete materials.
Along with this, about 700 lakh square feet of space has been freed up in government offices, which has resulted in better utilization and efficiency of the offices.
