New Delhi, July 1 (IANS). Indian Railways on Wednesday approved a Rs 226 crore project for modernization of signaling infrastructure on the Durg-Taroki section of Raipur division of South East Central Railway (SECR). This project is being considered an important step towards making railway operations more safe, reliable and technology based.
According to an official statement, under this project, state-of-the-art Electronic Interlocking (EI) system will be installed at 13 stations of the section by replacing the existing Panel Interlocking (PI) system. According to the Railway Ministry, this change will make train operations more safe, automated and technologically advanced.
The Railway Ministry said that under this project, the existing panel interlocking system will be converted to electronic interlocking, which will significantly improve the safety and reliability of train operations.
A total of 13 stations including Maroda, Risama, Gunderdehi, Latabod, Balod, Kusumkasa, Dalli Rajhara, Gudum, Bhanupratappur, Keoti, Antagarh, Taroki and Raipur Store Depot are included in this project.
According to the Railway Ministry, after the transition from panel interlocking to electronic interlocking system, the signaling system of this important railway section will be completely modernized, which will provide greater flexibility in operations and increase the reliability of the system.
Electronic interlocking is a modern signaling system that automatically controls route setting and signal operation for trains, with a number of additional safety provisions.
This system is considered more reliable, flexible and technically efficient as compared to traditional panel interlocking. This system is also more effective in restoring services faster in case of any disruption.
The Railway Ministry says the project will improve the safety and reliability of train operations, improve punctuality of trains and help handle the growing passenger and freight traffic on the South East Central Railway network more efficiently.
According to Indian Railways, the project is part of a broader campaign to equip the railway signaling system across the country with modern technology, with an aim to make the railway network safer, smarter and efficient.
The ministry said that with the implementation of the new system, technical faults related to signaling will be reduced, the movement of trains will be more safe and the increasing demand for passenger and freight transport can be met in a better way in the future.
