Roorkee, January 20 (IANS). Scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee have developed the next-generation antibody discovery platform. It is claimed that it will bring a big change in the identification and treatment of the disease. The platform is capable of rapidly identifying antibodies with high stability and strong binding to infectious diseases, cancer, autoimmune disorders and emerging pathogens.

This is an important step towards a self-reliant India, focused on developing advanced diagnostic tools locally.

This research involves the development of a very large, high-diversity single-domain antibody (nanobody) library.

From infectious diseases, cancer, autoimmune disorders and emerging pathogens, this platform helps in the rapid identification of highly stable and high-affinity antibodies (which bind very strongly to the target, making them more accurate and effective).

By significantly reducing discovery time, this discovery fills a major gap in healthcare response. These prove to be especially helpful in emergency situations.

Professor of Biosciences and Bioengineering Department of IIT Roorkee. Rajesh Kumar said, “By developing a universal, high-diversity antibody discovery system in India, we are strengthening our capabilities to respond rapidly to diseases and provide affordable diagnostics and treatments to those who need them most.”

This research brings to fruition the vision of self-reliant India and Make in India, which is vital for low- and middle-income countries where access to timely and affordable healthcare solutions remains a challenge.

This initiative aims to strengthen indigenous research capabilities, create intellectual property and reduce dependence on imported biologics. It complements national efforts to promote translational research (applying scientific findings from the laboratory directly to the treatment of patients), prepare for pandemics, and strengthen health services for the long term.

Director of IIT Roorkee, Prof. Of. Of. “This development shows how basic research, translational intent and industry collaboration can solve society’s pressing challenges,” Pant said.

The institute said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IMGen India to promote collaborative research, co-development of advanced biologics and capacity building in areas such as antibody engineering, diagnostics, therapeutics and bioprocess development.
