New Delhi, 30 September (IANS). Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that in recent years, the animal husbandry sector of India has registered an impressive CAGR of 12.77 percent, which contributes 31 percent in Agriculture Gross Value Added (GVA) and 5.5 percent in the country’s economy.
He further said that India today is identified as the world’s largest milk producing country, which is an annual production of 239 million tonnes and contributes about one-fourths to global production. Apart from this, India is also the second largest producer of eggs.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh highlighted India’s peasant-focused initiatives, innovation and changes in India’s farmer-focused initiatives, innovation and changes while addressing the second global conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation in Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
The Union Minister said that under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi, India has taken several transformational initiatives to ensure food security, improve nutritional results, strengthen livelihood and remove poverty. “
He said that since the Korona epidemic, the welfare measures of the country have taken out 269 million people out of extreme poverty. According to the World Bank’s 2025 report, this rate has now come down from 27.1 percent to 5.3 percent.
The Union Minister said that the livestock sector has played an important role in providing permanent livelihood to about two-thirds of rural families and millions of small and marginal farmers.
Giving information about the major initiatives made by India in the livestock sector, he said that through the National Gokul Mission, India is improving the preservation and genetic diversity of the breeds of indigenous cattle. It has benefited more than 92 million animals and has assisted more than 56 million farmers.
He said that India runs the world’s largest livestock vaccination program, which gives more than 1.2 billion doses every year to deal with major diseases and the country is a global hub of high quality vaccines and exports.
