New Delhi, 19 September (IANS). India’s smartphone market has increased at a rate of 2 percent on an annual basis in the first half of 2025 and a total of 6 crore units have been shipped during this period. This information was given in a report released on Friday.

According to data compiled by the International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple has emerged as the fastest growing brand with a strong increase of 35 percent in shipments.

The report said the premium smartphone priced more than Rs 50,000 played a big role in increasing the growth, while the mid-range segment of Rs 10,000-20,000 was the largest in terms of total sales.

According to the report, “At the regional level, the northern states led the market with a 33 percent stake, while the fastest growth in the southern region.”

Small Tier-4 cities, including Mysore and Shimla, also recorded a strong growth of two digits, reflecting the growing demand beyond metros and large cities.

Meanwhile, another report by Cybermedia Research (CMR) states that the sales of premium smartphones in India may increase by 18 percent in the coming festive season. Also, the market value can be seen by 24 percent.

The market of the premium segment, super-Primium segment (Rs 50,000 -1,00,000) smartphone can increase by 15 percent on an annual basis. At the same time, the market of the upper-Primium segment (Rs 1,00,000 and above) smartphones can increase by 167 percent on an annual basis. The reason for this is the increase in demand for flagship smartphones.

According to Prabhu Ram, vice -president of the CMR’s Industry Research Group (IRG), the premium smartphone market segment is continuously getting strong support due to its developed digital lifestyle by ambitious buyers, generations and millennial consumers.

He said, “With increasing accessibility and ability initiatives, more consumers are now trying to buy new premium devices. Talking about Android smartphone market, there is more demand for smartphones providing performance, design and on-device AI.”
