New Delhi, May 7 (IANS). Instagram is considered one of the most popular platforms in the world of social media, where people reach millions of people through their photos, videos and reels. But as its popularity has increased, the problem of fake accounts and bots has also increased. To eliminate this problem, Instagram has taken a big step in the year 2026. The company launched a large-scale cleanup campaign, in which millions of accounts were removed which were either not in use for a long time or were completely fake and automated.
After this action, there was a sudden drop in the number of followers of many big celebrities, influencers and brands, which created a stir on social media.
The biggest impact of this cleanliness campaign was on American influencer and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner. According to reports, his Instagram account lost more than 14 million followers. This decline was so big that even social media users were surprised. Not only Kylie Jenner but the followers of many other big creators and public figures also suddenly decreased.
The main objective of this big action by Instagram is to improve authenticity on the platform. Nowadays, many people use bots (automated accounts), through which they increase followers, likes and comments artificially. But Instagram wants that whatever engagement comes on the platform, it should come from real users, hence a big action was taken to remove such fake accounts.
Meta company spokesperson said that this action is part of Instagram’s regular system, under which inactive and suspicious accounts are removed from time to time. This does not affect active users. If a verified account is suspended by mistake, it is reinstated later. His follower count is updated again.
After this news came out, people are giving their reactions on social media.
