New Delhi, February 12 (IANS). Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has asked the industry to expand their reach into new markets, improve the quality of products and become more competitive so that they can take full advantage of the recent trade agreements.
According to an official statement, he appealed to exporters and industry organizations to properly utilize the free trade agreements (FTAs) signed with developed countries. This will increase new employment opportunities and strengthen exports of goods and services.
In a meeting with 35 Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and major industry organisations, Goyal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has signed agreements with developed countries to provide better opportunities to farmers, labourers, professionals, artisans and MSMEs in the global market.
The minister said that these trade agreements will also provide new opportunities to India’s traditional medicines and yoga in the world. Besides, the interests of agriculture and dairy sector have also been protected.
Goyal said, “India has made its mark in international trade since ancient times. These agreements will accelerate the goal of ‘Developed India’ and take forward Prime Minister Modi’s mantra of ‘Development also, heritage also’.”
Industry representatives expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and Commerce Minister for the recent trade agreements signed with the United Kingdom, European Union and the United States. He said that the removal of additional 25 percent tariff imposed on Indian products under the US order of 6 February 2026 is a big relief for India.
Industry says that America is one of India’s largest export markets. Removal of tariffs will once again strengthen the competitiveness of Indian exporters.
The progress of Export Promotion Mission (EPM) was also discussed in the meeting. The industry welcomed the steps taken by the government, including interest subvention on export credit, guarantee facility for MSMEs and special support for access to new markets.
