New Delhi, March 20 (IANS). Bangladesh High Commissioner Riyaz Hamidullah met Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. During this, both of them discussed in detail on further strengthening the economic partnership between India and Bangladesh, resolving trade related issues and pursuing common interests.
Hamidullah posted on social media platform ‘X’ that it was a privilege for him to meet the Commerce Minister in Delhi.
Hamidullah wrote, “He is a leader of extraordinary intelligence, passion and vision. He shared his vision of deepening the economic partnership. Inspired by the shared benefits of the people of both the countries, discussions were held to resolve existing trade-related issues as well as ways to advance the comprehensive economic partnership.”
“Finally, he was very impressed to learn about the heritage of Jamdani weaving,” Bangladesh envoy Hamidullah added.
Jamdani is a fine muslin fabric that originated in Bangladesh. This precious art of Jamdani weaving has been duly recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
On social media platform ‘X’, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar wrote, “Met Bangladeshi High Commissioner Riyaz Hamidullah. Our conversation focused on taking forward our bilateral relations.”
India on Thursday said it continues to assist Bangladesh and other neighboring countries on energy supply needs, balancing domestic needs, refining capacity and availability of diesel.
Addressing a weekly media briefing on Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that India has received energy related requests from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives and other neighboring countries.
He informed that India has been supplying diesel to Bangladesh through various modes of transportation since 2007 and continues to assist this South Asian nation as well as other neighboring countries.
With energy shipping routes affected due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, he said LPG supply still remains a concern.
