Nowadays, mobile phones do more than just make calls or send messages. In fact, everything from banking and social media to personal data is stored in it. This is the reason why hackers have increasingly focused their attention on smartphones. Often, a small mistake—like clicking an unknown link or installing a harmful app—

This can put the security of your entire device at risk. The good news is that by turning on some basic settings, you can significantly increase the security of your mobile phone. Learn how to protect your phone from being hacked, what specific settings you should turn on, and what precautions you should take.

Don’t forget to turn on two-factor authentication
The easiest and most effective way to increase your mobile security is with two-factor authentication (2FA). Once activated, it’s not enough to simply enter the password; You also have to provide another OTP (one-time password) or verification code. This ensures that even if someone knows your password, they won’t be able to log into your account. Nowadays, almost every app—including banking apps, email services, and social media platforms—offers this feature. Therefore, you should immediately turn on 2FA for all the important accounts you use.

Stay away from unknown apps and links
Hacking attempts often start with an accidental click. If you receive a link from an unknown number or email address, avoid opening it without thinking. Similarly, downloading apps from places other than the official Google Play Store or App Store can be risky. Such apps may contain malware that can steal data from your phone. Always install apps from trusted sources, and make a habit of reading user reviews before downloading any app.

Keep your phone’s security settings up-to-date
It’s important to keep your phone’s security settings up-to-date. For your screen lock, use a strong password or biometric authentication method, like fingerprint or facial recognition. Additionally, make sure you regularly update both your phone’s operating system and installed apps, as these updates often include important security patches and fixes. Also, turn on features like “Find My Device” so that if your phone is lost or stolen, you can track it or lock it remotely. These small settings can protect your phone from big threats.
