New Delhi, January 14 (IANS). The government said on Wednesday that more than 40 lakh Fastag annual passes have been sold in the last few months and now about 20 percent of car drivers are using this annual pass. It is clear from this that both affordability and convenience are possible together.
The government informed that this annual Fastag pass was started on 15 August 2025. Under this, any person can now by paying just Rs 3,000, either cross the toll 200 times or travel for a whole year, whichever is completed first. This facility is applicable on 1,159 toll plazas in the country.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, this has brought great relief to the people traveling daily on the highways in different parts of the country.
For many people, this annual pass is reducing the travel expenses as well as making the journey easy and hassle-free.
A person living in Yamunanagar, Haryana said that he often has to go to Chandigarh. Earlier they had to spend Rs 150 for a single commute, but after taking the annual pass, now the work gets done for just Rs 30, which is a big relief for them.
The government said that the annual pass has fixed and simplified the toll expenses which change every month. Due to this, daily commuters are getting the benefit of saving money, fixed expenses and hassle-free travel throughout the year. Now they do not have to worry about recharging Fastag again and again.
According to the ministry, between November 15 and December 10, 2025, more than 15 lakh UPI transactions took place at the toll plaza, the total amount of which was Rs 19.44 crore.
Apart from this, there has been a 25 percent reduction in cash payments, which has reduced crowding at toll plazas and made the system more clean and transparent. At present, 98 percent of the vehicles are using Fastag, and the remaining vehicles are also gradually connecting to it. This work is now being done not just by imposing fines but by providing easy and beneficial facilities to the people.
The ministry also said that if a road is being upgraded from 2 lanes to 4, 6 or more lanes, till the work is completed, people will have to pay only 50 percent of the earlier toll.
