New Delhi, 27 September (IANS). Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Saturday that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will be operational by 2029 and is expected to open 50 km of India’s first high-speed rail corridor between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat by 2027.

Union Minister Vaishnav inspected the under -construction Surat station, which included the track laying and the first turnout.

According to the Union Minister, the distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by bullet train can be covered in two hours and seven minutes, while this distance on Google Maps is shown for 9 hours.

The Union Minister said, “The total progress of the first bullet train project has been very good. The first 50 km section will open by 2027. By 2028, by 2028, the Thane-Ahmedabad section will be operational and the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad line will be opened by 2029.”

Union Minister Vaishnav emphasized the use of modern technology to ensure security, including the vibration -extinguishers system and special security facilities to deal with strong wind and earthquake.

The Union Minister said that construction work has been completed at Surat station and finishing and utility is going on along with adding tracks.

The first turnout has been engaged with advanced technology like roller bearing and composite sleeper.

The main line is designed to run at a speed of 320 km per hour, while the loop line will run at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

Services have been designed in such a way that a train will run every half an hour in morning and evening peak time.

The Union Minister had earlier said that when the entire network is stable, a train will run every 10 minutes in peak time.

The project is expected to add regional development to connect the economies of major cities along the corridor on the banks of the corridor and promote regional development like Japan’s high-speed rail.

The 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is India’s first bullet train project.
