Mumbai, 17 September (IANS). During the Ganeshotsav, a new technology was resorted to for security this time in Lalbagcha Raja, one of the most famous Ganapati mandals of Mumbai. For the first time, the Mumbai Police succeeded in controlling both the crowd and the crime using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, which is being appreciated everywhere.
Mumbai Police DCP Ragasudha R. (Zone 4) told IANS that in Lalbagcha Raja, a crowd of millions gathered in a limited area for 10 days, in which maintaining security is a big challenge. This time AI technology was used on the instructions of the Mumbai Police Commissioner, which made the crowd management much easier than before.
Under this technology, CCTV cameras were linked to AI tools, which was getting information in real time that how many people are entering, how many people are coming out, and where the crowd is getting more. As soon as the crowd started increasing in an area, the police team posted on the spot would be sent an alert and the system would be handled there.
DCP Ragasudha R. Told that this technology was not limited to rush control, but also played a big role in crime control. Criminals with old records were identified through the face recognition system. Due to this, crimes like mobile theft, chain snatching saw a big decline this time.
The police collected data of about 10,000 people during 10 days, with the help of which a direct access was made to the accused in one case. This technology was currently used at experimental level, but its results were so good that the police is now planning to apply it on a large scale in future.
The DCP said, “We used AI for the first time and its effect was clearly visible. Real -time data was immediately getting information about the situation. It was very useful in controlling both the crowd and crime.”
