With the beginning of the new year, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has given big relief to its customers. The company has launched Wi-Fi calling, or Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) service in all telecom circles across the country. With this feature, users can now make and receive calls even when the mobile signal is weak using a Wi-Fi network.
Now calling will be easy even in areas with less network.
The biggest benefit of Wi-Fi calling will be in areas where mobile networks are often unreliable. BSNL users, especially those living in rural and remote areas, will now be able to talk without any interruption using a stable Wi-Fi connection. If BSNL Bharat Fiber or any other broadband connection is available at home or office, there will be no need to worry about network issues.
Call directly from mobile dialer, no app required
There is no need to download any third-party app for this service. Wi-Fi calling works directly from the phone’s default dialer, and calls are made using your existing mobile number. The special thing is that this service automatically switches between Wi-Fi and mobile network during the call, due to which the conversation happens without any interruption.
No extra charges, same old tariff
BSNL has clarified that no separate charge will be taken for Wi-Fi calling. Calls made through Wi-Fi will be billed like normal voice calls. This means that users can talk as per their existing plan without any extra cost.
Which mobile phones support this feature?
Wi-Fi calling is supported on most new and modern smartphones. Users just have to go to their phone’s settings and turn on the Wi-Fi calling option. If there is any doubt about the compatibility of a device, BSNL advises customers to contact their nearest service center or helpline.
A big step by BSNL towards network upgrade
The launch of Wi-Fi calling across the country is being considered as part of BSNL’s network modernization drive. Its aim is to provide better connectivity even in those areas where mobile network coverage has been a major challenge. This step will not only provide relief to the customers, but is also expected to reduce the pressure on the mobile network.
